ROLINDA - Painted out of history by Hazel Gower

In 1996 PJ played herself as a foil to Toyah Willcox playing the Bristol artist Rolinda Sharples (b.1785) as they compared their lives as nineteenth and twentieth century women artists. One of PJ’s paintings to come out of this was ‘Miss Rolinda Sharples confronts the curator in the storeroom of Bristol Art Gallery & Museum’ oil on canvas 50 x 70 inches which shows the film crew.

Hazel, the writer and animator later wrote a monograph on Rolinda and the clip below is an introduction. For details of the film, the book and events please contact Hazel.
